About
Jessica is a Studio Potter with a background in Sculpture. A Clay College graduate she primarily makes thrown functional ware from her studio in Stoke-on-Trent. She works on a traditional leach-style kick wheel and fires in a reduction atmosphere.
Her work is focused on the sensitive interaction between maker and material. Exploring the dialogue between the plastic qualities of clay and its relationship to the user, she considers the evolution of each piece as being intrinsically linked to the rituals of functional ware.

Expanding her knowledge of materials, Jessica used her time on the diploma course at Clay College to widen her historical and practical understanding of ceramics. So as to gain a strong foundation of technical skill from which she now formulates her designs and practise.
Jessica is originally from Devon and was first introduced to ceramics at Hollyford Pottery before going on to study Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts London. Her studio is currently based on-site at Potclays Ceramics Supplies Ltd in Stoke-on-Trent, in the heart of the potteries.
She is also a co-director of Ground CIC along with Natalia Kasprzycka and Katrina Wilde. Together they run Ground, hosting seasonal workshops in Stoke-on-Trent, working with artists using ideas and materials that come from the natural landscape. The project is funded by Stoke-on-Trent BID and Arts Council England Project Grants.
