Flax, Fibres and Spinning Workshop with KentCLOTH

  • The Pines Calyx Beach Road Saint Margarets Bay CT15 6DZ (map)

Join us at the Pines Calyx for an introduction to growing, processing and spinning flax with spinner Jessie Mason and Fable & Base AKA Francesca Baur.

As well as learning about the heritage of flax growing in Europe, you will enjoy a hands on day learning the skills to process flax fibres. We will take you through the journey, from sowing the seeds, growing in the UK, pulling, retting, scutching, hackling and spinning.

We will have a range of fibres and tools available for you to explore throughout the day. This is a taster workshop to encourage a new interest of flax production in the UK, we aim to provide you with the skills to experiment with the process at home.

KentCLOTH is an Arts Council England Supported project running from October 2018- September 2019. During the year there will be an exploration of natural colour, fibres, and botanical pattern dicovered in Kent. The project is led by Textile Artist Francesca Baur AKA Fable & Base.

Textile works produced in the workshops will be exhibited at Rochester Art Gallery October 2019- January 2020.

Funded by Arts Council England, Ideas Test, Medway Council and Rochester Art Gallery
